The TTY/TDD is absolutely necessary for those of us that do not sign or read lips very well.  What about the people that do not have access to a computer?  I do hear well enough to use a cell phone but many people in my area do not speak English well enough for me to use the cell phone much, so I use TTY/TDD most of the time.
