C. Edwin Baker, Nicholas F. Gallicchio Professor of Law, University of Pennsylvania and graduate of Stanford University and Yale Law School, in addition to being the author of Human Liberty and Freedom of Speech (Oxford, 1987), has published three books on media policy: Advertising and a Democratic Press (Princeton, 1994), Media, Markets, and Democracy (Cambridge, 2002) (winner of the 2002 McGannon Communications Policy Research Award); Media Concentration and Democracy: Why Ownership Matters (Cambridge, 2007) plus numerous articles, book chapters, and op-eds on media policy. He has testified on media policy matters before Subcommittees of the United States House of Representatives and Senate and before the FCC and has informally given advice to a committee of the British House of Lords. He has lectured on media policy or the First Amendment in Canada, China, Czech Republic, England, Ethiopia, Hungry, Israel, Jordon, Mexico, Scotland, and Switzerland and in lectures, workshops or panels at many American universities including at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NYU, Penn, Chicago, Michigan, Berkeley, and Stanford.
