FCC IMPOSES $117,000 FINE ON AT&T WIRELESS
FOR MULTIPLE ANTENNA STRUCTURE VIOLATIONS

Washington, D.C. - Today, the Federal Communications Commission released an order imposing a $117,000 fine against AT&T Wireless Services, Inc. (``AT&T Wireless) for safety-related violations of the Communications Act and the Commission's antenna structure rules.

This action follows routine antenna structure inspections and related investigations conducted by Commission field offices throughout the country. The Commission determined that AT&T Wireless committed seven separate violations of the antenna structure requirements of Section 303(q) of the Communications Act and Part 17 of the Commission's rules. Included among the violations are failure to register, light, and paint antenna structures, and failure to post antenna structure registration numbers at the base of the antenna structures.

Action by the Commission on October 29, 2002, by Forfeiture Order (FCC 02-294). Chairman Powell, Commissioners Abernathy, Copps and Martin.
