Washington, D.C. - Today the Federal Communications Commission (``FCC'') entered into a Consent Decree with SBC Communications, Inc. (``SBC'') pursuant to which SBC has agreed to make a $3.6 million payment to the United States Treasury. This Consent Decree resolves two FCC investigations concerning inaccurate information SBC submitted to the FCC in affidavits supporting two separate section 271 applications to provide long distance service in Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas. In addition to the $3.6 million payment, SBC has agreed to implement specific procedures designed to ensure the accuracy of information contained in future section 271 affidavits it submits to the FCC. Further, SBC has committed to taking additional steps to ensure that all of its employees who engage in contacts with the FCC are properly educated and thus made aware of their obligations to provide truthful, accurate, and complete information to the Commission.
