PRESS STATEMENT OF COMMISSIONER GLORIA TRISTANI REGARDING
FALSE INFORMATION ON THE DEUTSCHE TELEKOM - VOICESTREAM
PROCEEDING
It has come to my attention that two letters have recently circulated regarding the Deutsche Telekom - VoiceStream transaction pending before the Commission. One letter purports to be from a member of my staff and the other from Senator Ernest F. Hollings. As a general rule, I do not comment on pending adjudicatory proceedings. In this instance, however, I want to make clear that neither I nor any member of my staff has sent a letter to Senator Hollings regarding the transaction. I am deeply troubled that the Commission's process is being used for deceitful purposes, and I have asked the Chairman to initiate a full investigation of this matter and to refer it to other federal agencies as appropriate.
