            STATEMENT OF CHAIRMAN WILLIAM E. KENNARD 
              ON CALEA MEETING WITH ATTORNEY GENERAL

Today, I met with the Attorney General to hear her views on implementing CALEA.  CALEA
directs the FCC to consult with the Department of Justice as part of our obligation to resolve
the issues before us.  My meeting with the Attorney General today was productive and quite
helpful.   We have met and will continue to meet with other interested parties in this
proceeding and intend to resolve these issues expeditiously.
