              STATEMENT BY FCC CHAIRMAN WILLIAM E. KENNARD 
                      ON SENATE ACTION ON SLAMMING

 I commend Chairman McCain and Senators Hollings, Snowe, Frist, Bryan, Collins, Glenn
and Durbin on their efforts to slam the slammers.  This legislation will give us more ammunition
to defend consumers against shady telecom slammers.  Now that the Senate has voted to toughen
the law against slammers, we will carry the fight forward and use existing tools and whatever
new tools Congress gives us to fight slamming root and branch.  All American consumers should
look forward to the day when this bill becomes law.
