STATEMENT OF FCC CHAIRMAN KENNARD ON PROPOSED SBC/SNET MERGER

     On the proposed merger of SBC Communications and Southern New England
Telephone Company FCC Chairman William E. Kennard said, 

     "The Federal Communications Commission will examine the proposed transaction to
ensure that it is consistent with the public interest."
