      CHAIRMAN KENNARD ISSUES RESPONSE TO ANNOUNCEMENT OF 
                      MCI-WORLDCOM MERGER 
                                
     In response to the announcement of the MCI-WorldCom merger, FCC Chairman William
E. Kennard has issued the following statement:
