FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE News Media Contact: September 29, 2000 David Fiske (202) 418-0513 STATEMENT OF FCC CHAIRMAN WILLIAM E. KENNARD I am pleased that television networks and station groups have recently stepped up to the challenge of elevating coverage of the political campaigns. I want to particularly commend CBS Television for committing to provide issue-oriented political coverage this election season. CBS will provide five minutes each night of voter information and candidate-centered discourse between October 2 and the November 7 elections as well as enhanced coverage of critical issues in this election. This commitment by CBS fuels the democratic process and is a good example of truly serving the public interest. I also want to commend other broadcasters, such as Hearst-Argyle, Scripps Howard, and Capitol Broadcasting, as well as Bloomberg Television and Radio, who have committed to provide expanded voter information during this election season. I hope that all television broadcasters will follow their lead. - FCC - 1 2 News media Information 202 / 418-0500 Fax-On-Demand 202 / 418-2830 TTY 202/418-2555 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov ftp.fcc.gov Federal Communications Commission 445 12th Street, S.W.
