Statement of FCC Chairman William E. Kennard Regarding AT&T Tariff Filing |
||||||||
As part of the requirements in our recent order reducing access charges by $3.2 billion, AT&T committed to doing the following: (1) Eliminate its minimum monthly charge to low volume callers; (2) Notify customers about a wide range of choices that can save them money; (3) Begin to flow through AT&T's access charge savings to consumers. We are looking closely at today's filing to determine whether it complies with our requirements and I am appointing a CALLS Compliance Team from our Enforcement, Common Carrier and Consumer Information Bureaus to ensure that consumers receive the benefits they were promised. I am encouraged by reports of options with no minimum charge, a 16-cent rate plan and a new consumer education program which informs consumers of choices which can save them money. I would be interested in hearing from AARP and other consumer groups as to whether this new plan works for their members. - FCC - |
