                STATEMENT BY FCC CHAIRMAN REED HUNDT ON 
           THE NOMINATION OF GLORIA TRISTANI TO THE COMMISSION

     I am pleased that President Clinton has nominated Gloria Tristani to serve as an FCC
Commissioner.  Gloria's accomplishments reflect her commitment to the public interest.  She
was the first woman elected to New Mexico's State Corporation Commission.  As a state
commissioner she has worked to ensure that all New Mexicans can avail themselves of the
benefits of the communications revolution and has championed the interests of consumers. 
The FCC and the American people will be well served by her presence in Washington.
