COMMISSIONER HAROLD FURCHTGOTT-ROTH TO DISCUSS TELECOM ISSUES
WITH WASHINGTON, DC, SENIORS' GROUP
Commissioner Named "Man of the Month"

Washington, DC - FCC Commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth and staff from the Commission's Consumer Information Bureau will participate in a discussion of current telecommunications issues with a Washington, DC, seniors group on Monday, April 16.

Commissioner Furchtgott-Roth will meet with the Brookland-Woodridge AARP chapter and will receive its "Man of the Month" award for his work while on the Commission.

Commissioner Furchtgott-Roth said, "I am very honored to have been chosen as the chapter's "Man of the Month" and I look forward to meeting with this dynamic group of people to hear their concerns and increase awareness about the FCC's role in consumer protection."

Monday's meeting continues the Commission's outreach to seniors that began with National Consumer Protection Week in February and is called "Senior Sense: Knowledge is Power." Commissioner Furchtgott-Roth will open the meeting and experts from the Commission staff will discuss the functions of the FCC, understanding confusing phone bills, dealing with telemarketers; accessibility issues such as hearing aid compatibility and closed captioning; and how to file complaints with the FCC.

There will be a question and answer period after the presentations.

The event will be Monday, April 16, 12:30 to 1:30 PM at the Northeastern Presbyterian Church, 211 Varnum St., NE, Washington, DC 20018.
