PUBLIC NOTICE Federal Communications Commission 1919 M St., N.W. Washington, D.C. 20554 D A 98-641 R eleased: April 3, 1998 COMMERCIAL WIRELESS DIVISION DISMISSES REMAINING APPLICATIONS FOR NATIONWIDE COMMERCIAL 220-222 MHz PRIVATE LAND MOBILE LICENSES On July 24, 1991, the Commission issued a Public Notice listing the 140 applicants for commercial nationwide 220-222 MHz licenses. In February, 1993, the Commission announced that a lottery would be held on March 31, 1993 to select four of the applications to be awarded the four commercial nationwide 220-222 MHz licenses. On March 31, 1993, the Commission tentatively selected four applicants by random selection from the 140 applications. The Commission thereafter granted the four selectees the commercial nationwide 220-222 MHz licenses. However, the grant of two of these licenses was challenged by certain applicants that had not been selected. The two nationwide commercial licenses remained contingent on the resolution of these challenges. These challenges have now been resolved, and the time for filing appeals has expired. Therefore, the remaining 136 applications listed in the Public Notice released on July 24, 1991, are hereby dismissed. For further information, contact Scott A. Mackoul, Federal Communications Commission, Wireless Telecommunications Bureau, Commercial Wireless Division, Policy and Rules Branch, at (202) 418-7240. -FCC-
