Today, the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau approves the applications filed by CellCall, Inc. (CellCall), Industrial Wireless Technologies, Inc. (Industrial), Potomac Corporation (Potomac) and Nextel Communications, Inc. (Nextel), pursuant to section 310(d) of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended (Communications Act). The applicants seek the Commission's consent to assign the Commission authorizations held by CellCall, Industrial, and Potomac to Nextel. Section 310(d) of the Communications Act requires that the Commission determine whether the proposed transaction would serve the public interest, convenience, and necessity. As part of the public interest determination, the Commission considers the effect of the proposed transaction on competition. We have reviewed the applications in accordance with the competitive analysis set forth in Applications of Pittencrieff Communications, Inc. for Transfer of Control of Pittencrieff Communications, Inc. and its Subsidiaries, Memorandum Opinion and Order, DA 97-2260 (rel. Oct. 24, 1997), and find that the proposed transactions will serve the public interest, convenience, and necessity. Therefore, we grant the applications.
