The new rules consolidate the Private Land Mobile Radio (PLMR) Services below 512 MHz into two broad pools (Public Safety and Industrial/Business). They also allow centralized trunking under certain conditions. We take this opportunity to remind applicants that beginning today (October 17, 1997), applications submitted on FCC Form 600 must be completed using the new radio service codes adopted in the Second R&O. When completing item 26 of FCC Form 600 Main Form, Public Safety applicants desiring to operate trunked radio systems must use the two-letter radio service code YW, and those desiring a conventional system must enter PW; Industrial/Business applicants must use the radio service code YG when requesting a trunked radio system and IG when requesting a conventional system. The new codes appear in the instructions for completing the FCC Form 600 in editions dated 9/97. Applicants are encouraged to use editions of the FCC Form 600 dated 9/97 and later.
