BROADBAND PCS C BLOCK AUCTION WILL PROCEED
               REGARDLESS OF POTENTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

        MDS and SMR Auctions also Unaffected by Possible Shutdown


       The Broadband PCS C Block auction will commence on December 18, 1995, and will
not be affected in the event of a government shutdown after midnight on December 15, 1995. 
The MDS and SMR auctions will also continue as scheduled.  Therefore, all bidding rounds
announced for December 18, 1995 and thereafter will take place as scheduled.  


As to other auction-related Commission activities:

þ      The Office of the Secretary will not be open, but will accept auction-related filings in
       the lobby of 1919 M St., N.W.  

þ      Auction-related Public Notices will be available on a press table in the lobby of 1919
       M Street, or through the International Transcription Service at (202) 857-3800.  

þ      The auction hotline and the Office of Public Affairs telephones will not be answered. 
       All auctions-related calls will be referred to the Auctions Division at (202) 418-0660.

þ      The Wireless Telecommunications Bureau Reference Room, Room 5608, 2025 M
       Street, N.W., and the MDS Reference Room, Room 207, 2033 M Street, N.W., will
       be open for auction-related purposes only.
