August 11, 1994 COMMISSION SEEKS COMMENT ON FOIA REQUEST SEEKING DISCLOSURE OF UNSUCCESSFUL BIDDER IDENTITIES AND ASSOCIATED BIDS IN THE RECENT NATIONWIDE NARROWBAND PCS AUCTION The Commission has received a request filed under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) seeking disclosure of certain information about the bidding which took place during the recent auction for 10 nationwide narrowband Personal Communications Service (PCS) licenses during July 25-29, 1994. The request was filed by the law firm of Morrison and Foerster. The request seeks disclosure of all records of the bidding which took place during that auction; it specifically seeks the identity of all bidders and their associated bidder identification numbers as well as the market number, bidder identification number, round number, bid amount, and date and time of submission of each acceptable bid submitted in the auction. The Commission seeks public comment on this request. In view of the short statutory deadlines for responding to FOIA requests, interested members of the public should file their comments no later than Monday, August 15, 1994. Copies of the request are available for inspection in the Commission's Records Management Division in Room 234, 1919 M St., N.W., or may be purchased from the Commission's copy contractor, International Transcription Service at (202) 857-3800. -FCC- For additional information contact: Kent Nakamura at (202) 632- 0278.
