FCC TO CONDUCT JANUARY 29 PRESENTATION ON STATUS OF LOCAL TELEPHONE COMPETITION The Federal Communications Commission will conduct an en banc presentation on the status of local telephone competition as part of the Commission's open agenda meeting on Thursday, January 29, 1998. This special presentation by trade association and local exchange carrier officials will commence at approximately 10:45 a.m. in the FCC meeting room, Room 856. The presenters will be: Heather Gold, President, Association for Local Telecommunication Services (ALTS)The Commission will hear reports on the status of local telephone competition, and presentations on specific experiences of companies that have entered the local exchange telephone business. Chairman William E. Kennard said, "I am delighted to continue this series of en banc presentations that bring industry representatives into our monthly meeting process to share perspectives, and enter into a dialogue with the Commissioners, on key issues affecting telecommunications policy." At the December 18, 1997 agenda meeting, the Commission heard three presenters discuss the status of competition in the multichannel video industry. A future presentation will focus on competition in the long distance industry.
