FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Mark Schneider December 22, 1999 202-418-2100 COMMISSIONER NESS NAMES LAUREN NORTHROP AS CONFIDENTIAL ASSISTANT Federal Communications Commissioner Susan Ness is pleased to announce the appointment of Lauren Gorman Northrop as Confidential Assistant to the Commissioner. Mrs. Northrop replaces Janice Wise, who will become the Program and Information Specialist in the newly created Consumer Information Bureau. A native Washingtonian, Mrs. Northrop comes to the FCC from her position as Corporate Projects Manager for a leading publicly-traded information technology services company, headquartered in Reston, Virginia. In that capacity, she worked with senior management in coordinating acquisitions, board relations, and investor relations. Previously, Mrs. Northrop served for four years as Assistant to Russell B. Long of Louisiana, former Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. She was responsible for monitoring legislative issues and coordinating his private sector board activities. Mrs. Northrop also served as Executive Assistant to Jane Alexander, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Her other prior experience includes corporate option administrator for Gannett Co., Inc., a news communications and information conglomerate headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Lauren Northrop earned a Bachelor of Arts cum laude from St. Mary's College of Maryland and resides in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her husband, Ryan.
