FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: News Media contact: August 23, 1999 Audrey Spivack at (202) 418-0500 OFFICE OF COMMUNICATIONS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES LAUNCHES NEW WEB SITE The FCC's Office of Communications Business Opportunities (OCBO) has launched a newly revised web page. The web site is accessible on the World Wide Web at www.fcc.gov/ocbo. The new design of the web page will greatly enhance OCBO's efforts to inform small businesses about Commission proceedings and business opportunities in telecommunications, and is designed to be a vehicle for disseminating information on telecommunications licensing and small business-related Commission rules. The web site will provide resource information aimed at telecommunications business opportunities, including new media technologies, financing and technical assistance. OCBO works to promote opportunities for ownership and employment in the communications industry for small businesses. The Office works with entrepreneurs, industry, public interest organizations, and individuals to provide information about policies to promote ownership and employment opportunities in the communications industry, and to encourage participation in FCC proceedings. OCBO Director Francisco Montero said "I am delighted with the new format of the web page. While we are still adding information, the new structure will transform the site from a static platform to a more interactive clearing-house for information and links to governmental and industry resources for small businesses and entrepreneurs. In the past, this service has been handled solely through mailings or faxes." The new web page already contains news updates and links to some government agencies and industry groups, which provide financial and technical consultation to entrepreneurs interested in launching new communications-related businesses. The Office acknowledged the assistance of OCBO Attorney-Advisor Belford Lawson and Charles Harrington of the Commission's Office of Public Affairs for their efforts in designing and planning the web site. For more information, contact the Office of Communications Business Opportunities at 202-418-0990, or by e-mail through OCBO's web site. - FCC -
