INFORMATION ON Y2K READINESS OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRIES AVAILABLE ON WHITE HOUSE Y2K TELEPHONE HOTLINE

Attached is a news release from the White House announcing that information about Y2K readiness in the U.S. telecommunications industry is now available on the information hotline provided by the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion.

After calling the toll-free information line at 1-888-USA-4Y2K (1-888-872-4925), Y2K information about all telecommunications industries is available on option number three.

FCC Commissioner Michael Powell, Chair of the FCC Year 2000 Task Force, said, "Today, the telecommunications industry takes another significant step forward in its on-going effort to provide the public with accurate and timely information by participating directly with the President's Council in its information hotline initiative.

On March 30, 1999, the FCC released a Y2K communications sector report. Copies of the FCC's report can be obtained on the FCC's website: www.fcc.gov/year 2000.
