Powell announced today several personnel changes in his office. Jane E. Mago, Senior Legal Advisor to the Commissioner, will be leaving the Commissioner's office to work with Deputy General Counsel David Solomon on the formation of a new Enforcement Bureau at the Federal Communications Commission. Commissioner Powell remarked, "I will miss Jane who leaves my office to pursue another professional opportunity within the Commission. Jane has been invaluable as my Senior Advisor and counsel on broadcast and cable matters, helping me to navigate some very complex issues. I have repeatedly drawn on both her vast knowledge of telecommunications law and policy and her wisdom born of long-term experience." "As much as I am saddened that Jane is moving on," Commissioner Powell added, "I am heartened to know that she will continue to serve the public in a meaningful capacity at the Commission." Peter A. Tenhula, Legal Advisor to the Commissioner, will be elevated to Senior Legal Advisor, and will continue covering wireless issues. Tenhula will also take on additional responsibilities to assist Commissioner Powell in his role as the agency's Defense Commissioner and will advise the Commissioner on selected common carrier and international issues. Marsha J. MacBride, an eight-year veteran at the Federal Communications Commission, will serve as Commissioner Powell's Legal Advisor on mass media, cable and international issues. MacBride served most recently as Associate Chief of the Office of Engineering and Technology, and serves as Executive Director of the FCC's Task Force on Year 2000 Conversion. In addition to her duties as Legal Advisor, she will continue to lead the Year 2000 Task Force. MacBride joined the Commission in 1991 as an attorney in the Political Programming Branch of the Mass Media Bureau's Enforcement Division, and has subsequently served as an Acting Deputy Chief of the Cable Services Bureau and Senior Legal Advisor to the Mass Media Bureau. From December 1996 to November 1997, MacBride was Legal Advisor to Commissioner James H. Quello for matters relating to broadcast and cable television, including the digital television, closed-captioning and inside wiring proceedings. Kyle D. Dixon will continue as Commissioner Powell's common carrier advisor and will also advise the Commissioner on selected cable and technology issues.
