Report No. SPB-99September 4, 1997

EXTENSION OF CUT-OFF DATES
FOR APPLICATIONS, LETTERS OF INTENT, AND AMENDMENTS TO
APPLICATIONS IN THE 2 GHZ AND 36-51.4 GHZ FREQUENCY BANDS

In Public Notices, Report Nos. SPB-88 and SPB-89 (July 22, 1997), as corrected, Report No. SPB-95 (August 13, 1997), the Commission invited interested parties wishing to file: (1) amendments to existing U.S. space station applications, (2) new U.S. space station applications, (3) earth station applications, or (4) letters of intent to use non-U.S. licensed space stations to be considered in the first 2 GHz and 40 GHz processing rounds to file no later than September 5, 1997. By this notice, we extend that date by three weeks in order to provide parties the opportunity to file the FCC Form 312 and to give notice of our new Part 25 rules.

Our Part 25 Streamlining Order(1) adopted new Part 25 rules and included a new FCC Form 312 to be used when applying for satellite authorizations. The new Part 25 rules, as well as Form 312, have received appropriate OMB approvals under the Paperwork Reduction Act. To date, we have not provided formal notice of the approval of the Part 25 changes. We will issue a separate Public Notice establishing the effective date of the Part 25 rules and will include the new FCC Form 312 as an attachment. (Form 312 will be available via the Internet and through the FCC's fax-on-demand system.) This effective date notice will be published in the Federal Register. Accordingly, to alleviate any confusion about the Part 25 rules or the appropriate filing form, we are extending the deadline for filing in these proceedings to September 26, 1997.

Therefore, interested parties wishing to file: (1) amendments to existing U.S. space station applications, (2) new U.S. space station applications, (3) earth station applications, or (4) letters of intent to use non-U.S. licensed space stations to be considered in the first 2 GHz and 40 GHz processing rounds must do so no later than September 26, 1997.

For further information, contact Virginia Marshall at (202) 418-0778 or Kathleen Campbell at (202) 418-0753.
