The Office of Engineering and Technology will host a tutorial on telecommunications network
security from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, October 25 in the Commission Meeting
Room (TWC-305), 445 12th Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. The objective of this tutorial is to
identify and clarify telecommunications network security issues. Presentations will be made by Dr. Will Leland, Chief Scientist in the Internet Architecture Research Laboratory of Telcordia Technologies; John F. Kimmins, Executive Director of Computer and Network Security Solutions Practice at Telcordia Technologies; Dr. Gary Hayward, Executive Director of the Information Networking Assurance and Integrity Program of Telcordia's Applied Research organization; and Henry M. Kluepfel, Vice President for Corporate Development, and Chief Scientist in the Information Technology Solutions Group of SAIC. The subjects to be discussed include security risk analysis for voice-over-Internet, next generation networks, voice-over-packet service architectures, standards, emerging products that may help address key security issues, disincentives to security and reliability in the converged network environment, and the commercial effort to transfer military grade information assurance research insights into the commercial sector for defense against threats to the commercial infrastructure. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the tutorial. Admittance, however, will be limited to the seating available in the Commission meeting room. Please allow sufficient time for clearance through Commission security before the seminar begins. The audio portion of this conference will be broadcast live on the Internet via the FCC's Internet audio broadcast page at http://www.fcc.gov/realaudio.
