Tutorial on Telecommunications Network Security

The FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology and Telcordia Technologies are sponsoring a tutorial on telecommunications security. The tutorial will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25 in the Commission Meeting Room (TWC-305), 445 12th Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. The goal of the conference is to increase understanding of telecommunications network security issues.

There will be four presenters:

Dr. Will Leland, Chief Scientist in the Internet Architecture Research Laboratory of Telcordia Technologies and Director of the Network Security Research Group, will speak on security risk analysis for voice-over-Internet and the components of risk for VoIP and the PSTN.

John F. Kimmins, Executive Director of Computer and Network Security Solutions Practice at Telcordia Technologies, will speak on next generation networks and in particular on voice over packet service architectures and will review what is happening in standards, and emerging products that may be able to address the key problems.

Dr. Gary Hayward, Executive Director of the Information Networking Assurance and Integrity Program of Telcordia's Applied Research organization will speak on the commercial effort to transfer military grade information assurance research insights into the commercial sector for defense against more strategic threats to the commercial infrastructure.

Henry M. Kluepfel, Vice President for Corporate Development, and Chief Scientist in the Information Technology Solutions Group of SAIC, will speak on regulatory, marketplace and technology drivers or disincentives to security and reliability in the converged network environment of the next generation public network.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the tutorial. Admittance, however, will be limited to the seating available in the Commission meeting room. Please allow sufficient time for clearance through Commission security before the seminar begins.
