THE OFFICE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY ADDS A MORNING SESSION TO THE "THE WIRELESS ACCESS TO THE INTERNET" TUTORIAL ON NOVEMBER 30, 1999 IN THE COMMISSION MEETING ROOM AT 9:00 A.M.

The Office of Engineering has added a morning session to its tutorial on "Wireless Access to the Internet" on November 30 in the Commission Meeting Room, 445 12th Street S.W. from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. The afternoon presentations will begin at 1:30 p.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.

The morning presentations will be given by Jeff Low, Vice President of Business Development at Ericsson Datacom; Dr. Michael W. Ritter, Chief Technology Officer with Metricom; Al Javed, Vice President and Chief Engineer of Wireless at Nortel Networks; and Kimberly Kleber, Director of Product Marketing for Qualcomm. The speakers will present their solutions to providing mobile access to the internet.

From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., speakers from Aironet, Intersil (formerly Harris Semiconductor), Wayport, and Nokia will: describe the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Association standard (which is based on IEEE Standard 802.11), discuss the implementation of that standard as a means of access to the internet that will resolve several existing problems, and assess probable testing and implementation.

Every effort is made to ensure that a wide diversity of viewpoints (and product manufacturers) are represented at the OET tutorials. By sponsoring the tutorial, the FCC is not endorsing any particular viewpoint or product. This is the 80th in a series of tutorials that began in 1980.

The public is invited to attend, no preregistration is needed. For further information contact Jack Linthicum at 202-418-2441 (voice), 202-418-1918 (fax), or jlinthic@fcc.gov (e-mail).

Both sessions will be available over RealAudio through the www.fcc.gov/realaudio website. Efforts are being made to provide both a sign language interpreter and closed captioning. Videotapes of the tutorial sessions will be available from the FCC contractor, InFocus, 341 Victory Drive, Herndon, VA. 20170. Telephone 703-834-0100(voice) and 703-834-0111 (facsimile).
