This is the fourth edition of OET Bulletin 56, first issued in the early 1980's. The bulletin provides updated information to the public and others on the topic of potential biological effects and hazards of radiofrequency (RF) energy. In 1996, as a result of its responsibilities under the National Environmental Policy Act, the Commission adopted revised guidelines for human exposure to RF emissions from FCC-regulated transmitters. The Commission's guidelines are discussed in this bulletin as are other relevant topics such as scientific research in this area. A list of references and related Internet Web sites is also provided.
