IDENTIFICATION ("ALI") FOR ENHANCED 911 ("E911") TECHNOLOGIES TO BE

The Commission's Office of Engineering and Technology, in cooperation with the Wireless
Telecommunications Bureau, will host a roundtable discussion of the technical issues involved in
the implementation of the performance and accuracy standards for Phase II Automatic Location
Identification ("ALI") technologies to be deployed as part of Enhanced 911 ("E911") service
beginning October 1, 2001.

Participants for the technical roundtable will be invited from the various industries involved with
the provision of E911 location service, particularly technical representatives or Chief Technical
Officers ("CTOs") of those companies developing location determination technologies. Details
regarding the participants and specific issues to be discussed will be provided in a subsequent
public notice.  Parties interested in having a technical representative 




participate may contact the staff listed below.  Parties interested in submitting technical questions
or issues for consideration at the roundtable should provide them to the staff listed below by June
17, 1999.  We anticipate the roundtable discussion will lead to better understanding of ALI
technologies and assist the Commission in its responsibilities to oversee implementation of
enhanced 911 services.  The transcript of the roundtable discussion will become part of the record
in the above-referenced docket.  

Attendance at this technical roundtable is open to the public.  Seating will be available on a first
come, first-served basis.  The real-time audio portion of the roundtable will be available via the
