FCC EXTENDS NOMINATION DEADLINE FOR NEW MEMBERSHIP
ON THE LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND
PROVIDES FAX NUMBER FOR DUPLICATE SUBMISSIONS

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is seeking nominations to fill three vacancies on the Commission's Local and State Government Advisory Committee (LSGAC). These vacancies are due to the departures of three current LSGAC members, Atlanta Mayor Bill Campbell, Albuquerque City Councilor Michael Brasher and Louise Renne, City Attorney, City and County of San Francisco. Therefore one vacancy will be filled by a local government attorney (elected or appointed), and two will be filled by elected municipal officials (mayor or council member).

The LSGAC is comprised of elected and appointed officials of municipal, county, state and tribal governments. It provides advice and information to the FCC on key issues relevant to the LSGAC, including public rights-of-way, facilities siting, universal service, removal of barriers to competitive entry and public safety communications. Pursuant to Sections 204(b) of the Unfunded Mandates Reform Act of 1995, Pub. L. No. 104-4, 109 Stat. 66, the LSGAC is not subject to, and is not required to follow, the procedures set forth in the Federal Advisory Committee Act 5, U.S.C., App. 2 (1988).

The FCC hereby extends the date through which it will be accepting nominations to the LSGAC until 5 p.m. Friday, December 7th, 2001. Each nomination must include:

(a) the name and title of the nominee and a description of the local or municipal interest the nominee will represent;
(b) the nominee's mail address, e-mail address, telephone number and facsimile number;
(c) a certification that the nominee is either a local government attorney (elected or appointed), or a municipal official (mayor or council member), and
(d) a description of the nominee's qualifications that would contribute to the roles and responsibilities of the LSGAC.

Nominations should be sent to Dr. Emily Hoffnar, the FCC's liaison to the LSGAC, Federal Communications Commission, 445 12th Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20554. Nominators are urged to send copies of nomination packages to Dr. Hoffnar via facsimile machine at (202) 418-0520. For further information pertaining to membership on the LSGAC, contact Dr. Hoffnar at (202) 418-7396 or at ehoffnar@fcc.gov.
