Report No. CIB 98-24 COMPLIANCE AND INFORMATION ACTION November 13, 1998 AMATEUR RADIO OPERATOR CITED FOR MALICIOUS INTERFERENCE The FCC's Compliance and Information Bureau (CIB) has issued a Notice of Violation to an amateur radio operator in New Jersey for causing interference in the Amateur Band, and has restricted him from further Amateur Band operations. Richard D. Lee, Chief of the Commission's Compliance and Information Bureau, said, "We are receiving an increasing number of complaints about malicious interference in the Amateur Bands, and such practices will be swiftly addressed by the Commission to ensure compliance with the rules." The Notice of Violation was issued on October 21, 1998, to James C. Thompson, licensee of Amateur Radio Station WA2YBP in Waretown, New Jersey, after Commission monitoring personnel observed him interfering with communications on 7.240 MHz. Following a station inspection, CIB cited Thompson for violations involving the following Commission rules: rebroadcasting, Section 97.113(e); willful interference, Section 97.10(d); and station identification, Section 97.119(a). Thompson has 10 days to respond. Pending the outcome of the Commission's investigation, Thompson was also restricted from further operation on the 40 meter Amateur Radio Band. - FCC - News Media contact: David H.
