The Federal Communications Commission will hold the second of two en bancs to discuss recent
consolidation activities in the telecommunications industry, focusing on the proposed mergers
between SBC Communications, Inc. and Ameritech Corporation, Bell Atlantic Corporation and GTE
Corporation, and AT&T Corp. and Tele-Communications, Inc,. The purpose of these en bancs is
to assist the Commission in determining whether these mergers are consistent with the goals of the
1996 Telecommunications Act, which include promoting competition in telecommunications markets
and protecting the public interest.
In this en banc,state, consumer,community and telecommunications industry representatives will
discuss the proposed mergers' impact on telecommunications markets. The agenda for the en banc
is given below.
