NEWSApril 6, 1998 LISA GELB NAMED CHIEF, ACCOUNTING POLICY DIVISION, COMMON CARRIER BUREAU Lisa S. Gelb has been appointed Chief of the Common Carrier Bureau's Accounting Policy Division of the FCC. Since August 1997 Gelb has served as the Chief of the Universal Service Branch of the Accounting and Audits Division of the Common Carrier Bureau. The Universal Service Branch has responsibility for implementing the universal service provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Previously, Gelb was an attorney in the Common Carrier Bureau's Policy and Program Planning Division. In that capacity, she had a lead role in implementing the local competition provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Before joining the FCC in 1995, Gelb served as counsel for the Subcommittee on Regulation, Business Opportunities and Technology in the United States House of Representatives. Prior to that, she worked in private practice, specializing in cable television regulation and First Amendment matters. She received her J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan in 1989. She received her B.A. from Vassar College in 1984. - FCC -
