Logan has announced that he will step down as Deputy Chief of the FCC's Cable Services Bureau to join Wallman Strategic Consulting, LLC. XH- "John has served the Commission and the government, with distinction and dedication for many years and I am sorry to see him go," said Chairman William Kennard. "In addition to his critical role as Deputy and Acting Chief of the Cable Services Bureau, John also represented the Commission on Capitol Hill, led the work of our public safety spectrum task force and been an integral part of the Commission's efforts on a range of issues. I know I speak for everyone at the Commission when I say I will miss him and wish him well." Logan served as Deputy Chief of the Cable Services Bureau since March 1996 and was Acting Chief of the Bureau during 1998. During his time as Acting Chief he supervised the Commission's decisions involving the commercial availability of digital set top boxes and program access and the commencement of its review of digital must carry obligations. As Deputy Chief he oversaw several rulemakings enhancing competition in video and communications generally, including inside wiring and open video systems. He also supervised the Bureau's enforcement efforts. Logan joined the Commission in February 1994 as Deputy Director of the Commission's Office of Legislative Affairs, where he represented the Commission on Capitol Hill during consideration of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. He also led the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau review of public safety communication issues and served as the Commission's representative to the Public Safety Wireless Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee made several recommendations, which the Commission has subsequently acted upon, to improve the quality of public safety wireless communications. Prior to joining the Commission in February 1994, Mr. Logan held several senior positions at the Department of Justice, including the Office of Legislative Affairs, where he handled antitrust and civil matters, and the United States Trustee System, where he was General Counsel and then Director.
