DEBORAH A. LATHEN TO BE NAMED CHIEF, CABLE SERVICES BUREAU


Deborah A. Lathen will be named Chief of the FCC's Cable Services Bureau.

Lathen has attained valuable corporate and managerial expertise during her 16 years as a practicing attorney. She is currently Director of National Consumer Affairs at Nissan Motor Corporation USA, in Carson, CA. Prior to assuming this position, she was Managing Counsel of Nissan's Business Transactions Group which was responsible for the provision of legal services to Nissan and its North American affiliates in the areas of general corporate law, contracts, logistics, finance, environmental compliance, insurance, immigration and general business matters.

Lathen also has been Senior Counsel at TRW in Orange, CA, a litigation attorney with The Quaker Oats Company in Chicago, IL, and an associate attorney in private practice.

FCC Chairman William E. Kennard said, "Deborah is an excellent lawyer and a skilled manager. The wealth of experience she has garnered in the private sector and her business, transactional and consumer affairs background will serve her well as Cable Services Bureau Chief."

She received her juris doctor from Harvard Law School and holds a bachelor's degree in Government from Cornell University, where she graduated magna cum laude.
