Year 2010 Census Tract Information for Filings of December 31, 2011, and Later Data
Form 477 requires broadband providers to
submit data on a census-tract basis. For the
filing of data as of December 31, 2011, or later dates, the Form 477 electronic filing system will recognize
as valid the combinations of
County and Census
tract codes
from the Year 2010 Census.
The Census Bureau provides additional guidance about the Year 2010 Census geography:
Filers revising broadband data as of June 30, 2011, or earlier dates must use Year 2000 Census tract codes.
Also, the FCC provides a Developer Application Programming Interface (API) to convert a passed
Latitude and Longitude to its census block number.
The census block number is a 15-digit "FIPS" code that incorporates - reading from left to right - the location's 2-digit State code,
3-digit County code, and 6-digit census tract code.
Important note for filers who use the financial industry's address search tool: Where the census tract of an
address changed between the Year 2000 Census and the Year 2010 Census, the
FFIEC Geocoding System returns the Year 2010 Census tract code
only when "2012" is selected from the drop-down list.
