TIPS FOR CONSUMERS WITH DISABILITIES ON STOPPING UNSOLICITED TELEMARKETING

  1. To stop getting unsolicited telemarketing phone calls at home, write a letter to Telephone Preference Service, Direct Marketing Association, P.O. Box 9014, Farmingdale, New York 11735-9014.

  2. In your letter, ask them to "Please Remove Me From Your Phone And Mail Lists" per the Federal Communications Commission Rules Under The Telecommunications Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) which has an $11,000 civil penalty for violators.

  3. Include your name, address, AND the phone number(s) at which you do not wish to get telemarketing calls. Sign your letter.

  4. You can also say something like the following when you receive an unsolicited telemarketing phone call: "Thank you for calling me. However, under the Telecommunications Consumer Protection Act, I am asking you to add my name and phone number to your Do Not Call List. Please tell your supervisor I have made this request. Thank you."
