TELECOMMUNICATIONS AGENDA RELEASED FOR NATIONAL SUMMIT ON
EMERGING TRIBAL ECONOMIES, SEPTEMBER 19, 2002, IN PHOENIX

Chairman Powell and Commissioner Copps to Address Summit

Washington, DC – The FCC has released the telecommunications agenda for the National Summit on Emerging Tribal Economies on September 19 in Phoenix. The agenda is highlighted by a keynote speech by FCC Chairman Michael Powell, which will be delivered to the general session of the National Summit, and a presentation by FCC Commissioner Michael J. Copps, as part of the day-long telecommunications program "Telecommunications: The Foundation to Building and Sustaining Economic Development."

Their appearances are part of the FCC’s Indian Telecommunications Initiatives Program (ITI), a comprehensive program that seeks to foster partnerships among tribes, industry and government agencies to target specific concerns, identify potential solutions, and bring affordable, quality telecommunications services to American Indian tribes and Alaska Native village communities.

The summit takes place from September 16 to 19. September 19 is the day the FCC and other federal agencies will discuss their programs and initiatives of interest to American Indian tribal and Alaska Native village communities. The summit is sponsored by federal agencies, Indian Country and corporate America.

The agenda is attached.
