     Statement of FCC Chairman William E. Kennard Regarding
U.S. Department of Justice Action on Proposed Worldcom-Sprint Merger


     I applaud today's action by the Department of Justice to preserve competition and protect
consumers.  In my view, American consumers are better served if these companies continue to
compete rather than combine.
