WASHINGTON, D.C. 20554 DA 99-148 News media information 202/418-0500 Fax-On-Demand 202/418-2830 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov ftp.fcc.gov Released: January 12, 1999 WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUREAU GRANTS 900 MHZ SMR MAJOR TRADING AREA LICENSE TO WILDERNESS COMMUNICATIONS, LLC Wilderness Communications, LLC (Wilderness) was the high bidder for license M040-R (Little Rock, Arkansas) in the Commission's auction of Major Trading Area (MTA) licenses to provide Specialized Mobile Radio service in the 896 - 901 MHz and 935 - 940 MHz bands (900 MHz SMR). During the course of this auction Wilderness withdrew an erroneous bid and subsequently requested a waiver of 47 C.F.R. 90.805, which imposes payments on bidders who withdraw high bids during an auction. On August 5, 1998, the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (Bureau) released an order that resolved this issue and assessed Wilderness a bid withdrawal payment of $4,000.00, clearing the way for the Bureau to grant the license Wilderness won at auction. Wilderness qualified under the Commission's rules to participate in the 900 MHz SMR auction as a small business and was therefore eligible to pay for the amount owed for its license in installments. Wilderness, however, has sufficient funds on deposit with the Commission to cover its down payment, its bid withdrawal payment, and the entire outstanding balance due on the license. In addition, Wilderness has approved the use of these funds to pay for its license in full. Accordingly, the Bureau, under delegated authority, grants Wilderness's application for 900 MHz SMR License M040-R.
