INFORMATION CONCERNING THE SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS CONSISTENT WITH THE RULE CHANGES ADOPTED IN THE REFARMING SECOND REPORT AND ORDER (PR DOCKET NO. 92-235) |

|
Today, the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau begins accepting applications consistent with the
Commission's decision in its Second Report and Order (Second R&O) in PR Docket 92-235. The new rules
consolidate the Private Land Mobile Radio (PLMR) Services below 512 MHz into two broad pools (Public
Safety and Industrial/Business). They also allow centralized trunking under certain conditions. We take this
opportunity to remind applicants that beginning today (October 17, 1997), applications submitted on FCC
Form 600 must be completed using the new radio service codes adopted in the Second R&O. When completing
item 26 of FCC Form 600 Main Form, Public Safety applicants desiring to operate trunked radio systems must
use the two-letter radio service code YW, and those desiring a conventional system must enter PW;
Industrial/Business applicants must use the radio service code YG when requesting a trunked radio system and
IG when requesting a conventional system. The new codes appear in the instructions for completing the FCC
Form 600 in editions dated 9/97. Applicants are encouraged to use editions of the FCC Form 600 dated 9/97
and later. Radio service codes IG (Conventional -- Industrial/Business Pool) and YG (Trunked -- Industrial/Business Pool) consolidate and replace the following radio service codes.
Feeable application packages must be mailed to the Pittsburgh, PA address below for applications using the IG code (Conventional -- Industrial/Business Pool) and the YG code (Trunked -- Industrial/Business Pool).
Radio service codes PW (Conventional -- Public Safety Pool) and YW (Trunked -- Public Safety Pool) consolidate and replace the following radio service codes.
Public Safety Services: Application packages must be mailed to the address below for applications using the PW code (Conventional -- Public Safety Pool) and the YW code (Trunked -- Public Safety Pool).
Note: The fee type codes and dollar amounts remain the same. We also take this opportunity to remind applicants that the consolidation of Part 90 services into two pools also affects the eligibility showings required for PLMR systems above 800 MHz and for private systems in the Fixed Microwave Services (FMS). Applicants for PLMR systems above 800 MHz must provide sufficient information to demonstrate eligibility in the category from which channels are requested, and these applicants, as well as applicants for private microwave systems, must provide the appropriate rule section under which they establish their eligibility.
For general information, please contact the FCC National Call Center toll free at 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322).
