Since March 1998, Weingarten has served as Chief of the Bureau's Commercial Wireless Division. The Commercial Wireless Division is responsible for developing policy for use of radio spectrum for commercial wireless communications; licensing and settling disputes arising from use of such spectrum; and reviewing mergers and acquisitions involving such spectrum. Previously, Weingarten served as Legal Advisor to the Chief of the Bureau and Special Counsel in the Bureau's Policy Division. Before coming to the Bureau he served as a Senior Attorney in the Competitive Pricing Division of the FCC's Common Carrier Bureau, Deputy Chief of the Consumer Protection and Competition Division of the Cable Services Bureau, and as an attorney in the Cable Bureau. Prior to joining the FCC, Weingarten worked at the Baltimore office of the law firm of Piper & Marbury where he worked on public utility and other administrative law matters as well as public finance matters. He also served as an in-house attorney doing regulatory and business law work for a life insurance company. Weingarten holds a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and a B.A. from Georgetown University. - FCC -
