The Morse Code requirement should be done away with entirely; opting instead for increased written exams. Morse Code is outdated, slow, hard to learn for many, and is a major reason many engineers refuse to join the amateur operator ranks. As a former talk show host on more than 70 radio stations, for almost 7 years, dealing exclusively with amateur radio(Ham Radio & More Show), I am fully aware of the disdain by the quiet majority of hams against the CW requirement. We should vote against the International Treaty that requires it; joining New Zealand, Great Britain, Canada, and others; and we should abolish the REQUIREMENT here! It will always remain as another mode, which is what it is, another mode of communications, not more or less important than any other! I suggested an easy route for hams which received 100's of letters agreeing with, called WOG, the Written Only General. It was simply to get a General Class License, the current system was fine or an applicant could, instead, pass the written General, Advance, and Extra written tests to bypass the code requirements. Whatever the case, CW knowledge does in no way at all, assure a good operator, only a good CW operator. And, forcing CW only serves to keep amateur radio away from it's intended goal of pushing the envelope in new technology; not living in the past. Thank you
