While I suppose this proposal has SOME merit, I am most definitely against it. I simply can not support it. First, I don't see any REAL need to change the current system. It's not broken. Second, regardless of the comments in the proposal to the contrary, this proposal WILL lessen the testing requirements for advancement in license class. Generations before me have passed 20 wpm tests to climb to the pinnacle of licensing (as I did, I am an Extra Class...and proud of it!)....and generations AFTER me can to...if they CHOSE to. This is a hobby after all...those that choose to advance in the hobby...and have put a little time into the hobby to obtain the skills to advance...always have been able to advance...and always will. DON'T LESSON the hobby by removing requirements and making it easier to reach the higher license privileges....you are merely DEMEANING the hobby! It was bad enough that they stopped using fill in the blank type tests....and started giving a 'multiple guess' format....and GAVE testers the test pool to MEMORIZE the answers before testing. So, the current written tests are a JOKE to anyone with half a brain...and some reasonable testing skills. Heck, if you give me a pool of several hundred 'multiple guess' questions for a test to become a brain surgeon, and let me memorize them a few weeks...and then go take a 50 question 'multiple guess' test based on that exact question pool I have memorized, I GUARANTEE you (if that was all that was required) that EVEN I could be a brain surgeon! PERHAPS...I say PERHAPS...if the new written tests were indeed harder...AND AS AN ABSOLUTE MINIMUM....would HAVE to be fill in the blank...NOT MULTIPLE GUESS (the current format), MAYBE morse code requirements could be lessened and the tests could still be meaningful. Right now, morse code is about the only thing that at least makes a candidate work and practice in the hobby a little bit before advancing. ANYONE can memorize a 'harder' written test and advance (in the present format). PLEASE, PLEASE reconsider this proposal. PLEASE consider changing the written test format to 'fill in the blank'...NOT multiple choice! Or....do NOT do away with the current 20 wpm morse code test requirement for extra class. And please reconsider the suggested changes in frequency bands. Even though I (as an extra class) would gain some additional bandwidth...I can't condone the changes. Hey, if it aint' broke...don't fix it. IT AINT' BROKE!! Leave it alone!
