Washington, D.C. 20554 August 14, 1998 DA 98-1639 FCC ANNOUNCES INCREASE IN APPLICATION FEES Effective September 14, 1998, the application fees charged to licensees and permittees by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will increase to reflect changes in the Consumer Price Index-Urban (CPI-U). Section 8(b) of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended in the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989, requires cost-of-living adjustments to the application fee schedule every two years after October 1, 1991. Increases in the dollar amounts of all Section 8 application fees are based on the percentage change in the CPI-U from the date of enactment of the legislation. The new Schedule of Application Fees reflects the net change in the CPI-U of 28 percent, calculated from December 1989 through September 1997 in accordance with Section 1.1115 of Part 1 of the Commission's rules. Please note that the Schedule of Application Fees listed in the Report & Order adopted May 8, 1998, and released on May 15, 1998 (FCC 98-87) has been revised. Please discard this Schedule. The most recent Schedule was published in the Federal Register (63FR42735) on August 11, 1998, and can also be found on the internet at http://www.fcc.gov/fees. The address for the Wireless Telecommunications Services has changed in the new schedule. Wireless Telecommunications Services application fees which have an associated regulatory fee that must be paid at the time of application filing are noted by an asterick in the Schedule. Please refer to the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau Fee Filing Guide (dated September 1998) for the total fee that is due for these specific services.
