NEWS August 18, 1995 JACK W. GRAVELY NAMED DIRECTOR OF WORKPLACE DIVERSITY Jack W. Gravely has been named Director of Workplace Diversity at the Federal Communications Commission. Mr. Gravely has devoted his career to human resource management. Before joining the Commission, he was a Consultant and Trainer for human resource management issues at The Gravely Group in Petersburg, VA. Prior to his position at the Gravely Group, he was the Director of Special Projects for the NAACP in Baltimore, MD. In this position, he was responsible for developing and implementing nationwide public hearings on police and community relations in six cities. He served as Special Assistant to the President for Affirmative Action at National Public Radio from 1988-1991. In this capacity, he investigated and conducted training in issues involving sexual harassment, pay disparity, and chaired a committee that established AIDS, smoking, and drug policies. From 1985-1988, as Special Assistant to the County Manager for Equal Employment Opportunity\Affirmative Action for the Arlington County Government, Mr. Gravely anticipated changes, adjusted training and developed necessary polices and staffing changes to address the influx of Central Americans, Asians and Ethiopians that moved into the county. Throughout his career, he has worked with other public and private sector agencies to address issues of racial and cultural diversity. "Mr. Gravely is an accomplished and well-respected professional who is expert in assisting public and private organizations to apply emerging concepts in the field of human resource management," said FCC Chairman Reed E. Hundt. "He will make an important contribution to improving the quality of our workplace for all employees." Mr. Gravely, a Vietnam veteran, received a Bachelor of Science in History and Government from Fayetteville State University and earned a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. - FCC -
