February 22, 1999 ELIZABETH W. BEATY NAMED DEPUTY DIRECTOR OFFICE OF LEGISLATIVE AND INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS Elizabeth W. Beaty has been named Deputy Director, Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs (OLIA). She will assist the Director in planning, developing and coordinating the FCC's legislative program. She will also be responsible for handling issues such as universal service, high cost, rural health care, access charge reform, and other common carrier issues. Beaty has served as a staff attorney in OLIA since October 1998, prior to which she was the Chief of the Financial Analysis and Compliance Division of the Cable Services Bureau. Before that, Beaty was the Assistant Bureau Chief for the Cable Services Bureau overseeing the Office of Government and Public Outreach. She also served as Legal Advisor to the Consumer Protection Division of the Bureau, and as a staff attorney for the Policy and Rules Division of the Bureau. Prior to joining the Cable Services Bureau, Beaty served as an attorney in the Policy and Rules Division of the Mass Media Bureau. Prior to joining the FCC, Beaty worked in the motion picture industry and in children's television programming. Beaty earned her B.A. in Business Management and in Fine Arts from Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina, and her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in Brooklyn, New York. She is a member of the bar in the State of New York. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Federal Communications Bar Association. - FCC -
