NEWS June 8, 1998 JOSEPH CHACHKIN APPOINTED CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE Effective June 7, 1998, Joseph Chachkin has been appointed Chief Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) at the FCC. A native New Yorker, Judge Chachkin completed his undergraduate studies at Rutgers University and Brooklyn College. Upon receiving his LL.B from Brooklyn Law School in 1959, he entered private practice in New York City. Judge Chachkin joined the FCC in July 1961, as a General Attorney in the Common Carrier Bureau's Public Utilities Division. He remained in that position until October 1963 when he joined the Broadcast Bureau's Hearing Division as a Trial Attorney where he remained for three and a half years. In 1967 he returned to private practice as a communications lawyer. Returning to the FCC in April 1969, Judge Chachkin was appointed as a General Attorney in the Office of General Counsel's Enforcement and Defense Division, transferring a year later to the Broadcast Bureau's Hearing Division. Judge Chachkin has served as an ALJ since 1979. Judge Chachkin resides in Washington, DC, with his wife, Margaret. - FCC -
