NEWS May 29, 1998 THOMAS G. KRATTENMAKER RETURNS TO FCC AS DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH IN THE OFFICE OF PLANS AND POLICY Thomas G. Krattenmaker has been named Director of Research in the FCC's Office of Plans and Policy. He will assume this position on June 29. He is currently Special Counsel for Policy and Regulatory Affairs in the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division and is on leave from William and Mary School of Law where he has been Dean from 1994 to 1997. From 1978 to 1980 Krattenmaker was Co-Director of the FCC's Network Inquiry Special Staff. He is the author of the 1998 book Telecommunications Law and Policy. He has also been a professor at Georgetown University Law Center; Scholar in Residence at the law firm of Latham&Watkins; Visiting (Fulbright) Professor of Law at the University of Natal (Durban), South Africa; Chief of the Evaluation Division, Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Federal Trade Commission; Law Clerk to Supreme Court Justice John Harlan and an Assistant Professor Law at the University of Connecticut School of Law. FCC Chairman William Kennard said "I am thrilled that Tom will be joining our team in OPP with his extensive background as a policymaker and scholar, combining law and economics. I am looking forward to his guidance and counsel as we craft policies for the digital age." Krattenmaker has a B.A. in economics (high honors), Phi Beta Kappa, from Swarthmore College where he was a General Motors National Scholar, and a J.D, magna cum laude, from Columbia University School of Law, where he was Notes Editor of the Columbia Law Review. - FCC -
