FCC Chairman William E. Kennard has named Ari Fitzgerald to be a Legal Advisor. Fitzgerald will advise the Chairman on international and wireless issues.

Prior to his appointment, Fitzgerald served as Senior Legal Advisor to the Chief of the International Bureau.

Fitzgerald joined the Commission from the United States Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel, where for three years he provided legal advice to the White House Counsel's Office and the General Counsels of Executive branch agencies.

Fitzgerald graduated magna cum laude in Social Studies from Harvard College in 1984. From 1984 to 1985, he served as a Henry Luce Scholar in Asia. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1990.

Fitzgerald worked for two years prior to law school at the New York investment bank First Boston. After law school, he clerked for Federal Judge H. Lee Sarokin. Fitzgerald served for two and one half years as Legal Counsel to Senator Bill Bradley, and worked for one year in the Washington, D.C office of the law firm Sullivan and Cromwell.

Fitzgerald is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, New York and Connecticut.
